The Haifa Baha'i Gardens

The Haifa Baha'i Gardens

The Baha'i Gardens are a highlight on any Israel tour, attracting over half a million visitors a year.  In July 2008, the gardens received World Heritage Site status for their universal value as a holy site and place of pilgrimage for followers of the Baha'i Faith.

The gardens form a staircase of nineteen terraces which extend all the way up the northern slope of Mount Carmel. On the central terrace stands the golden domed Shrine of the Bab where the Prophet-Herald of the Baha'i Faith is interred, making this a particularly sacred spot for Baha'i followers. Different parts of the gardens offer varied experiences with graveled paths, flower beds and paths throughout, all tended by committed gardeners, often volunteers. Visitors can experience panoramic views over the Galilee, and the Mediterranean from the gardens.
